You can create hyperlinks in Microsoft Word by copying a URL, highlighting your text, and pressing Ctrl+V. Word adds the hyperlink directly to the selected text.

The Ctrl+K method still works, but Microsoft has made it a whole lot easier with this copy-and-paste shortcut.

The Traditional Ctrl+K Method

The familiar method starts with selecting the text you want to turn into a link.

  1. Select your text in Word.
  2. Press Ctrl+K to open the hyperlink box.
  3. Enter your URL in the box to create the hyperlink.

This method uses the box to connect your selected text to the URL. With the paste method, you can skip that box.

Copy the URL first, then return to your document.

  1. Grab your URL and copy it with Ctrl+C.
  2. Come back to Word.
  3. Highlight the text you want to turn into a hyperlink.
  4. With your text highlighted, press Ctrl+V.

Word inserts that hyperlink right on top of your text. Your selected words become the link, without opening the hyperlink box and entering the URL there.

To create hyperlinks in Microsoft Word with Ctrl+V, the key is having your URL copied and your text highlighted before you paste.
